Unending Story
For millions of years volcanoes have been erupting and altering the landscape in this area to create an artistic unending story in this fascinating area of Zion National Park...
Zion has several volcanoes erupt inside its boundary, but these erupted long before Zion became a park. Many others, from 1-3 million years ago, erupted just north of the park, and many others have erupted much more recently. Zion is in an active volcanic field called the Santa Clara. Eruptions in this field are typically on the order of one every few 10,000 years.
